Glycolipid Biosurfactant Production from Waste Cooking Oils by Yeast: Review of Substrates, Producers and Products

نویسندگان

چکیده

Biosurfactants are a microbially synthesized alternative to synthetic surfactants, one of the most important bulk chemicals. Some yeast species proven be exceptional biosurfactant producers, while others emerging producers. A set factors affects type, amount, and properties produced, as well environmental impact costs biosurfactant’s production. Exploring waste cooking oil substrate for biosurfactants’ production serves an effective cost-cutting strategy, yet it has some limitations. This review explores existing knowledge on utilizing feedstock produce glycolipid biosurfactants by yeast. The focuses specifically differences created using raw or ability various synthesize sophorolipids, rhamnolipids, mannosylerythritol lipids, other glycolipids substrate’s composition, properties, limitations in application biosurfactants.

Response Surface Methodology for Optimizing the Production of Biosurfactant by Candida tropicalis on Industrial Waste Substrates

Biosurfactant production optimization by Candida tropicalis UCP0996 was studied combining central composite rotational design (CCRD) and response surface methodology (RSM). The factors selected for optimization of the culture conditions were sugarcane molasses, corn steep liquor, waste frying oil concentrations and inoculum size. The response variables were surface tension and biosurfactant yie...

Application of yeast glycolipid biosurfactant, mannosylerythritol lipid, as agrospreaders.

The spreading property of mannosylerythritol lipids (MELs) was investigated in connection with our search for new application in agriculture. The wetting ability of MEL solutions for hydrophobic surfaces was evaluated based on contact angle measurements for several surfactant solutions on abiotic and biotic surfaces. The contact angle of MEL-A solution on a hydrophobic plastic surface at 100 s ...

Conversion of waste cooking oils into environmentally friendly biodiesel

Background There has been an alarming increase in the dumping of Hong Kong’s municipal solid waste (MSW), predominantly food waste, in landfill (9,547 tonnes of MSW per day in 2013) [1]. One way of promoting an environmentally friendly method of minimising food waste is to turn the waste into energy by producing biodiesel from waste cooking oils. Biodiesel is a biodegradable fuel that can be ma...

Production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil and factors affecting its formation: A review

Growing concern regarding energy resources and the environment has increased interest in the study of alternative sources of energy. To meet increasing energy requirements, there has been growing interest in alternative fuels like biodiesel to provide a suitable diesel oil substitute for internal combustion engines. Biodiesels offer a very promising alternative to diesel oil since they are rene...

A Two-step Catalytic Production of Biodiesel from Waste Cooking Oil

Waste cooking oil (WCO) was used as a potential feedstock for biodiesel production. High levels of free fatty acids (9.85% w/w) in WCO made it an undesirable substrate for direct transesterification reaction. To solve this issue, a two-step process was implemented in this research. Firstly, esterification reaction was performed in presence of sulfuric acid as a common acid catalyst to reduce th...
